Puerto de Mahón sits in the natural harbour of Mahón (Maó), the capital of Menorca, with 100 superyacht berths in one of the deepest and longest natural harbours of the Mediterranean — 5 kilometres long, sheltered, deep-water, with historic British naval-era fortifications (Menorca was British for much of the 18th century, and the influence remains visible in the language, architecture and food).
The Menorcan pantry is distinct from Mallorca and Ibiza. Mahón-Menorca DOP cheese — Spain's most famous cow's milk cheese, hard, lightly piquant, available curado and semi-curado, produced exclusively on the island. Gin Xoriguer — the historic Menorcan gin, distilled in Mahón since the 18th century (the British naval origin), the basis of the pomada cocktail (gin and bitter lemon). Caldereta de langosta — the Menorcan lobster stew, traditionally made with the indigenous spiny lobster (langosta de Menorca), one of the great Spanish seafood specialties. Sobrasada Menorquina (similar to but distinct from Mallorca's). Olive oil from the small Menorcan groves. Wines from Mallorca (Menorca has limited own wine production) and the Spanish mainland. Mahón is also known for the local mayonnaise (the city is the alleged birthplace of mayonnaise — salsa mahonesa — claimed by Menorquíns since the 18th century). Specialty providers handle the full Menorcan tradition at superyacht scale.
Yachting season runs May through October with sharp peaks summer. Mahón suppliers handle same-day on fresh items and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning, with tender delivery to anchorages around Menorca and onward to Ciutadella.
