Puerto Deportivo de Roses sits in the historic fishing town of Roses on the northern Costa Brava, with 50 superyacht berths in the natural Bay of Roses — the largest semicircular bay of the Mediterranean. Roses is one of the most ancient ports of Catalonia (founded by the Greek colonists of Rhodes around 776 BC, the original "Rhode" gave the bay its name), with the ruins of Empúries (the Greek and Roman city) 8 km south. The pantry is Empordà Catalan with Bay of Roses fishing specifics. Empordà DO wines — Garnatxa, Carinyena reds, Garnatxa Blanca whites, plus the iconic Garnatxa de l'Empordà sweet wine. DOP Empordà olive oil. The Bay of Roses is one of the great Catalan fishing zones — gambes de Roses (the local red prawn, distinct from the Palamós variant), anchoas de Roses, scampi, sea bass, sea bream, monkfish, plus the iconic Bay of Roses cuttlefish (sépia). The L'Escala anchovy tradition is 20 km south. Catalan specialties: pa amb tomàquet, suquet de peix, fideuà, esqueixada de bacallà. The famous El Bulli restaurant (Ferran Adrià, closed 2011 but the historic site is in Cala Montjoi immediately north) put the Bay of Roses on the global gastronomy map. Specialty providers maintain restaurant-grade catering for the local high-end economy. Yachting season runs May through October. Roses suppliers handle same-day on fresh items and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning, with tender delivery to Cap de Creus natural park anchorages (the wild north coast immediately east) and Cala Montjoi.
