Puerto Sotogrande sits in San Roque on the western Costa del Sol, with 90 superyacht berths in the modern marina basin of one of the most exclusive European resort communities. Sotogrande is a polo, golf and equestrian luxury community developed since the 1960s — Valderrama Golf Club (the only continental European Ryder Cup host, 1997), the Santa María Polo Club (where the Beaufort and Snow Polo Cups run), and the Cádiz coastline beyond the marina with the Strait of Gibraltar and Tarifa visible in the distance.
The pantry is Andalusian luxury. Jamón Ibérico de Bellota — Spain's most prestigious cured ham, from acorn-fed Iberian pigs in the Huelva and Extremadura dehesa (Jabugo, the Huelva mountain town, sets the global benchmark). Atún rojo de almadraba — the traditional bluefin tuna catch in the Strait of Gibraltar (the almadraba method has been used here since Phoenician times, with the tuna fishing villages of Conil and Barbate immediately west). Sherry from Jerez (Jerez-Xérès-Sherry DO is 90 km west — the historic bodegas at González Byass, Tío Pepe, Lustau, Williams & Humbert, Hidalgo all offer direct trade): Fino, Manzanilla, Amontillado, Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez. Manzanilla de Sanlúcar de Barrameda DO. Vinagre de Jerez DOP. Andalusian olive oil from Jaén and Córdoba (Spain's largest olive oil production). Specialty providers serve the resort community's restaurant economy at the highest international standard.
Yachting season runs April through October. Sotogrande suppliers handle same-day on fresh items and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning. The marina hosts a polished restaurant and shopping economy distinct from the more polished Puerto Banús east.
