Porto Azzurro sits on the eastern side of Elba, in a deeply sheltered bay overlooked by the Spanish-built Forte Longone (a 17th-century fortification now used as a prison). With 45 superyacht berths, it offers the calmest mooring on Elba's busy eastern coast and a quieter alternative to Portoferraio for charters working the Tuscan Archipelago.
Pantry: Elban and Tuscan archipelago. Elban wines: Aleatico dell'Elba DOCG passito, Ansonica, Vermentino, Sangiovese. Olive oil from Elban groves. Fresh fish from the local boats and the Portoferraio auction (delivered daily). Elban specialties: schiaccia briaca (raisin sweet bread), gurguglione, stoccafisso alla riese. Wild herbs and mountain honey from Monte Capanne. Tuscan mainland sourcing through the daily Piombino ferry — Bolgheri, Maremma, Lucchesia oil. Several Porto Azzurro suppliers also work directly with the small-batch Elban wine producers for exclusive allocations.
Yachting season runs late May through September. Porto Azzurro is markedly quieter than Portoferraio and well-suited to relaxed cruising. Suppliers handle same-day on fresh items and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning, with tender delivery to yachts anchored off the eastern Elban bays (Cavo, Rio Marina, Lacona).
