Porto di Catania is the principal port of eastern Sicily and the second-largest of the island after Palermo, with 80 superyacht berths in the working commercial harbour and full road and air access (Catania Fontanarossa airport is 10 minutes by road). The city is the gateway to Mount Etna, sits directly on the Ionian sea, and houses La Pescheria — the daily fish market that has been working in its current location since the 17th century and remains one of the most authentic fish markets of Italy.
The Catanese pantry is one of the deepest in Sicily. Pasta alla Norma — the iconic Catanese dish of tomato, fried aubergine, ricotta salata and basil — was invented here, named after Bellini's opera. Pistacchio di Bronte DOP from the western slopes of Etna, 30 km north-west. Etna DOC wines from the volcano's vineyards. Fresh fish from La Pescheria: swordfish from the Strait, tuna, anchovies, sardines, octopus, sea urchin, the local masculini (a small Sicilian anchovy). Sicilian specialties: arancini siciliani, cannoli, cassata, granita catanese with brioche, sfincione, scaccia, busiate. Olive oil from the Etna and Iblei slopes. Specialty providers handle the full breadth of Sicilian product at scale, with HACCP-grade cold chain.
Yachting season runs April through October with year-round port traffic. Catania suppliers handle same-day on fresh items and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning, with onward delivery to Taormina, Siracusa and the Ionian coast.
