Porto di Anzio sits on the Lazio coast forty kilometres south of Rome, in the natural bay where Nero built his summer villa and where Allied forces landed in 1944. With 45 superyacht berths, it is the principal mainland departure point for the Pontine islands (Ponza, Palmarola, Ventotene) and a calmer alternative to Ostia for Roman-coast yachting.
Pantry: Roman coast. Olive oil from the Castelli Romani and the Sabina DOP. Lazio whites: Frascati DOC, Marino, Velletri. Lazio reds: Cesanese del Piglio, Aleatico. Fresh fish from the Anzio auction (the local market is well-regarded among Roman restaurants) and the small-boat fishermen. Anzio specialties: tellinata (clam pasta), spaghetti al cartoccio (paper-baked pasta with seafood), zuppa di pesce. Roman pantry items (guanciale, Pecorino Romano DOP, the pasta canon) are sourced via daily Rome city delivery. Specialty providers maintain Pontine island lines for charters that begin or end on Ponza.
Yachting season runs May through September with peak in late July and August. Anzio is a useful staging point for Pontine island runs and a quieter Roman-area base than Ostia. Suppliers handle same-day on fresh items and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning.
