Porto di Chiavari is the working pleasure-marina of the Tigullio's eastern shore, between Lavagna and Santa Margherita Ligure, with 50 superyacht berths and a calm small-town atmosphere. Chiavari itself is one of the most authentic Ligurian towns of the Tigullio — covered porticos, Saturday street market, traditional bakers and pasta workshops — and serves as the practical hinterland for charters anchored off Portofino or the Cinque Terre.
Pantry: full Tigullio. Pesto Genovese DOP from Pra' basil, focaccia di Recco al formaggio from the village fifteen minutes away, salted anchovies from Monterosso, Ligurian olive oil from the Levante coast. Fresh fish from the Camogli and Santa Margherita boats and the Genoa wholesale market. Cinque Terre DOC whites and Sciacchetrà passito from terraces fifteen minutes south. Local Chiavari specialties: pansoti al sugo di noci, gnocchi al pesto, focaccette al formaggio di Megli, Aveto valley chestnuts and ricotta. The Saturday market is an underrated provisioning resource for produce, cheese and charcuterie.
Yachting season runs May through September with strong July-August peak. Chiavari suppliers handle same-day on fresh items and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning, with tender delivery to Portofino, Paraggi and the Cinque Terre. The town's road and rail connections to Genoa make it a practical alternative when Lavagna and Rapallo are at capacity.
