Porto di Gaeta sits on the southern Lazio coast halfway between Rome and Naples, in a deep natural harbour beneath the medieval town and the Aragonese castle. With 60 superyacht berths and full commercial infrastructure (the port is also a NATO base), it is the principal yachting hub of the Gulf of Gaeta and a natural stop between Roman and Neapolitan waters. The Pontine islands (Ponza, Palmarola, Ventotene) lie offshore. Pantry: southern Lazio and Campania border. Olive oil from the Itri and Sperlonga hills (Lazio's southern olive belt, DOP Colline Pontine). Lazio whites and crossover Campania whites (Falanghina from the bordering Caserta). Fresh fish from the Gaeta auction and Pontine island boats. Gaeta specialties: Olive di Gaeta DOP (the small purple-black variety brined locally and shipped worldwide), tiella di Gaeta (the local stuffed flatbread, savoury and sweet versions), zuppa di pesce. Pontine sourcing: lentils from Ventotene (small, dark, Slow Food protected), fish caught around Ponza and Palmarola. Campania crossover sourcing — buffalo mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes — is available within an hour. Yachting season runs May through September. Gaeta suppliers handle same-day on fresh items and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning, with tender delivery to yachts anchored off Ponza, Palmarola and Ventotene. The Italian summer fleet uses Gaeta heavily in August.
