Porto di Genova is the largest port of Liguria and one of the oldest working harbours of the Mediterranean. The yachting infrastructure is concentrated in the eastern basins — Marina Porto Antico beneath the historic Lanterna lighthouse and Marina Genova at Sestri Ponente — with around 100 superyacht berths between them and full commercial-port logistics for the largest vessels. Genoa is also a refit reference: shipyards in the western harbour serve the entire Ligurian fleet, making this a year-round operational base, not only a summer stop.
The Genoese pantry is one of the most distinct in Italy. Pesto Genovese DOP made strictly with the small-leaf basil grown in Pra' and the western suburbs, focaccia di Genova with coarse salt and olive oil, focaccia di Recco al formaggio from the eastern Tigullio, anchovies salted at Monterosso, fresh fish from the Genoa wholesale market at Mercato dei Pesci, walnut-sauce ravioli, farinata di ceci. Ligurian olive oil from the Riviera di Ponente and the Levante. Indigenous wines: Pigato and Vermentino whites from the Riviera Ligure di Ponente DOC, Rossese di Dolceacqua reds. The covered Mercato Orientale handles produce, charcuterie and specialty cheeses; the Boccadasse fishermen still bring in the morning catch.
Yachting season is technically year-round given the refit traffic, with charter activity peaking from May through September. Suppliers handle same-day fresh deliveries from the Mercato Orientale and 24 to 48 hours for full provisioning. Many also serve the Tigullio coast east toward Portofino, Rapallo and Santa Margherita.
