Porto Mediceo is the historic Medicean basin of Livorno, set immediately below the Fortezza Vecchia at the heart of the city. With 70 superyacht berths and direct access to the wider commercial port, it serves as the principal Tuscan-coast yachting base outside the Versilia, with full road and rail connections to Florence, Pisa and the Tuscan interior. Livorno itself is one of Italy's most distinct port cities — multicultural, working-class, with the cacciucco fish stew at the centre of its food identity.
Pantry: Tuscan coast and interior. Olive oil from the Colline Pisane and the Maremma. Tuscan whites: Vermentino di Toscana, Trebbiano. Tuscan reds within easy reach: Chianti, Bolgheri (Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Le Macchiole), Maremma. Fresh fish from the Livorno auction (one of the most active Tyrrhenian fish markets) and the local boats. Cacciucco alla livornese — the signature dish — a multi-fish stew with bread, garlic and chilli, the cornerstone of local culinary identity. Specialty production from Tuscany: cinta senese pork, lardo di Colonnata, pecorino di Pienza, Chianina beef, fagioli zolfini, farro della Garfagnana. Livorno also hosts a longstanding kosher tradition (the city had one of the oldest Jewish communities of Italy) and specialty kosher providers remain.
Yachting season runs April through October with shoulder support year-round from commercial-port traffic. Livorno suppliers handle same-day on fresh items and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning, plus onward delivery to Elba and the Tuscan archipelago via the daily Piombino ferry.
