Porto di Olbia is the principal entry port of north-east Sardinia and the gateway to the Costa Smeralda. With 90 superyacht berths, full commercial-port infrastructure and the daily ferry connections from Civitavecchia, Genova and Livorno, it serves as the operational base for charters working the whole north of the island — Porto Cervo, Porto Rotondo, the Maddalena archipelago, the Gallura coast. Olbia Costa Smeralda airport is fifteen minutes by road, making it the natural charter-start port for guests flying into Sardinia.
The Gallura pantry is one of the most distinctive in Italy. Vermentino di Gallura DOCG — the only Sardinian wine with the highest DOCG status — is produced in the granite soils of the surrounding hills (Monti, Calangianus, Tempio Pausania). Cannonau di Sardegna, the indigenous Grenache equivalent, comes from across the island. Pecorino Sardo DOP and Pecorino Romano (most Pecorino Romano is in fact produced in Sardinia, not Lazio). Bottarga di muggine from the Cabras lagoon on the west coast. Sardinian specialties: malloreddus (small ridged pasta), culurgiones (the stuffed pasta of Ogliastra), porcetto (suckling pig roasted on myrtle branches), pane carasau (the thin crisp bread), mirto liqueur from wild myrtle berries.
Yachting season runs May through September with very sharp Italian-fleet peaks in late July and August. Olbia suppliers handle same-day on fresh items and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning, with onward delivery to Porto Cervo, Porto Rotondo and Palau (for Maddalena charters).
