Porto Venere occupies the southern entry to the Gulf of La Spezia, with 50 superyacht berths set beneath the medieval church of San Pietro built directly on the cliff. The setting is dramatic — the UNESCO-listed coastline of pastel houses descending into clear water — and the village is the closest mooring to the Cinque Terre proper. Across the narrow strait, the island of Palmaria offers the gulf's premier anchorages for yachts in summer.
The pantry is Riviera di Levante Ligurian. Cinque Terre DOC whites from terraces above Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso — Porto Venere's own wine producers participate in the same appellation. Sciacchetrà passito, the rare dried-grape dessert wine from the Cinque Terre cliffs. Olive oil from the Levante coast. Fresh fish: Porto Venere's own boats land the day's catch (sea bass, dentex, scorpionfish, anchovies, octopus), supplemented by the La Spezia auction. Salted anchovies from Monterosso, mussels from the Gulf of La Spezia (the gulf is Italy's mussel farming heartland), pansoti, farinata di ceci. Inland: chestnuts and chestnut flour from the Lunigiana hills behind the gulf.
Yachting season runs May through October. Porto Venere suppliers handle same-day fresh deliveries and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning, with tender delivery to yachts anchored off Palmaria and Tino islands. Most Porto Venere operations also coordinate with La Spezia (Porto Mirabello) for larger orders and megayacht handovers.
