Porto di Savona sits on the Riviera di Ponente, west of Genoa, in a deep commercial basin that handles cruise ships, ferries and a respectable cluster of superyachts. With 90 superyacht berths and the protected position behind the old town's Priamàr fortress, it is the western Ligurian alternative to Genoa for charters working the French border or beginning Mediterranean repositioning runs. The town itself is working-class Ligurian, with markets, fishmongers and bakeries on the inner-city streets rather than waterfront restaurants.
The pantry is Ligurian di Ponente — the western half of the region's culinary tradition. Olive oil from the Taggia variety, dominant across Imperia and Savona provinces and producing the delicate fruity oil that defines Ligurian cooking. White Pigato and Vermentino wines from inland hills, Ormeasco di Pornassio (the local Dolcetto clone) for reds, Rossese di Dolceacqua further west. Fresh fish from the Savona auction. Local specialties include farinata di ceci, panissa, anchovies preserved in salt, and the dried-cod tradition (stoccafisso accomodato) that connects Liguria with its Atlantic trade history. Inland sourcing from the Langhe (truffles in autumn, hazelnuts, salumi) is straightforward via the autostrada.
Yachting season runs May through October, with shoulder support from the refit traffic that uses Savona as a quieter alternative to Genoa. Suppliers handle same-day on fresh items and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning.
