Porto di Marzamemi sits at the south-east tip of Sicily, with 30 superyacht berths in the small natural harbour beneath the historic tonnara (tuna trap) that gave the village its identity for four centuries. The tonnara of Marzamemi — restored, with restaurants and small artisan producers inside the former tuna-processing buildings — is the cultural epicentre of one of the most charming small ports of the Mediterranean.
The Marzamemi pantry centres on tonno rosso (Atlantic bluefin tuna), which migrates past the village each spring and summer. The historic tonnara is no longer active for the mattanza (the traditional industrial tuna catch), but small-scale tuna fishing continues and the village remains the south-east Sicilian centre for tuna products: bottarga di tonno (cured tuna roe), tonno sott'olio (tuna in olive oil), ventresca, lattume (tuna semen sac, a prized delicacy). Nero d'Avola from the surrounding vineyards (Avola is 25 km north). Pomodoro di Pachino IGP — Pachino itself is 5 km west, the village is in the IGP heart. Mandorla di Avola almonds. Sicilian specialties: pasta con i ricci (sea urchin), pasta alla siracusana, granita con brioche. Olive oil from the Monti Iblei DOP. Several Marzamemi producers ship internationally for specialty restaurants.
Yachting season runs May through September with Italian-fleet peaks late July and August. Marzamemi suppliers handle same-day on fresh fish and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning. The village is markedly small-scale — best as a specialty stop rather than a full provisioning run.
