Porto di Portoferraio is the main port of Elba, the largest island of the Tuscan Archipelago, set inside the natural harbour that gave Napoleon his year of exile (1814-1815). With 70 superyacht berths beneath the Medicean fortifications of Forte Falcone and Forte Stella, it is the operational hub of Elba and the natural base for charters working the Tuscan archipelago between Capraia, Pianosa, Montecristo, Giglio and Giannutri.
Pantry: Elban and Tuscan archipelago. Elban wines — Aleatico dell'Elba DOCG passito, Ansonica, Vermentino, Sangiovese — from terraced vineyards across the island. Olive oil from Elban groves. Fresh fish from the Portoferraio auction and Elba's small-boat fishing fleet: tonno (tuna), palamita, sea bream, dentex, scorpionfish, lobster, sea urchin. Elban specialties: schiaccia briaca (the local sweet bread made with Aleatico raisins), gurguglione (summer vegetable stew), stoccafisso alla riese. Tuscan mainland sourcing — Bolgheri, Maremma, Lucchesia olive oil, cinta senese pork — is straightforward via the daily ferry from Piombino. Specialty providers handle vegan, gluten-free and allergen-specific protocols.
Yachting season runs late May through September with sharp Italian-fleet peaks in late July and August. Portoferraio suppliers handle same-day on fresh items and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning. Most also coordinate tender deliveries to yachts anchored off Capraia, Pianosa and the Elban bays (Cavo, Bagnaia, Procchio, Marina di Campo).
