Porto Santo Stefano is the main port of the Monte Argentario promontory in southern Tuscany, with 80 superyacht berths set against the wooded slopes of the headland. The Argentario is one of the most distinctive yachting destinations on the Tyrrhenian coast — a near-island connected to the mainland by two narrow sand tongues, with the protected lagoon of Orbetello between them and the islands of Giglio and Giannutri just offshore. The summer yacht traffic, particularly the August Italian fleet, is intense.
Pantry: Maremma. Olive oil from the Argentario and the Maremma hills. Tuscan whites: Ansonica from the Argentario itself (a rare indigenous variety), Vermentino di Toscana. Tuscan reds: Maremma Toscana DOC, Morellino di Scansano DOCG, Bolgheri 30 minutes north. Fresh fish from the Porto Santo Stefano auction and the local boats — palamita (a small bonito species), red mullet, sea bass, dentex, lobster. The Argentario's lagoon: anguilla (eel), bottarga di muggine (cured grey mullet roe), spigola di valle. Inland Maremma sourcing: cinta senese pork, pecorino di Pienza, Chiana cattle.
Yachting season runs May through September with sharp Italian-fleet peaks in late July and August. Porto Santo Stefano suppliers handle same-day on fresh items and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning, with tender delivery to yachts anchored off Giglio and Giannutri, plus the Argentario's own bays.
